A Revelation About Affection

Comments

Ah, phoneboy. Nothing in life is that absolute! Just ask me. I didn't speak to my father for 25 years. Then my brother did a guilt trip on me at a time my father was very ill. We reconciled; he recovered; and I think I'm glad a bout it. He died a few months ago, and I guess I'm glad the closure was there. We had about 10 or so years to reconnect, and they were rocky ones.

I guess all I'm saying is that some day you may want to reopen that chapter, and it'll be okay, because it'll be YOUR choice. Be well.
Your mother sounds like she might be bipolar. I, myself, have it, so that's what makes me suspect it. I am in no way saying that she should use this as an excuse for her behavior (if it's true), or that you should "overlook it" and get back into a relationship with her. But it would explain some of what went on between the two of you. Yes, there are some truly toxic people in the world, and it's sad that your mother is one of them. Sad for her, for you...and your children. But such is life. We can't heal the world, only ourselves.

I'm all in favor of "tying up loose ends before it's too late"...but I suppose there are some ends that should be left dangling, unless there is a drastic change in your mother's behavior. Whether this happens or not, is totally up to her. It would be nice if it happened that way, but we know that Walt Disney endings don't come about all that often. I realize I can't be objective, because of my volatile relationship with my own bipolar father, but I still felt the need to offer what support I could.

So, just continue being your wonderful loving self...and know that there are people out there who love you, too :)
