As I write this, the article isn't online yet.
I haven't done much here recently aside from posting the odd picture taken with my N95. Been kind of busy.
We've been in our new place nearly a month. Boxes are still everywhere. The house is a mess. We're trying to work in regular housecleaning to the regular routine--something we haven't had to do in a while.
And, of course, there's still stuff in the old house. Aside from the furniture still there, we still have plenty of other stuff there as well. My office is pretty well cleaned out, but Jaden's bedroom still has a ton of stuff in the closet. There's also plenty of toys still in the toy room.
Thanks to the equipment purge I recently did--thankfully I was able to give away or recycle almost all of it--I have some empty plastic bins to help get the stuff out of the house today. I'm sure I could fill those up quite a few times and not get everything out.
I have no idea when we'll get all the stuff from the old house. It's probably going to depend on when we sell it. Wish I knew when that was going to be.
In an effort to keep up with the increased expenses, I may be signing up to do yet more work. Right now, I am getting paid to blog a couple of places. It's not a lot, but it's, in theory, steady income that will help offset some of the increased expenses.
The biggest expense is the new mortgage. While I can't do much about that, the things we can eliminate once the old house sells are the old house mortgage and a bridge loan.
And therein lies the problem. Existing home sales are down--way down. It doesn't help there are plenty of choices on the market, both new and pre-owned homes. It also doesn't help that mortgage rates are increasing, despite the fact the Feds just lowered the prime rate.
Meanwhile, this new work is going to involve writing. This time, not blog posts, but technical material for books and similar venues. Will also get to review stuff as well. It should pay significantly better than the blogging, but will take more time and energy.
I am having problems keeping up with just the blogging right now, mostly because we are out of our regular routine. Moving has a way of throwing that completely out of whack. I'm looking forward to Jaden going back to school so we get some semblance of regularity with the routine. More immediately, I need to get back to the regularly scheduled day job work as well.
And maybe, just maybe, I need to sleep more. Hard to do when the only time I have to write is at night.
Not sure what we're doing today. Jaden and I are sitting in Urgent Care because he's developed an interesting rash. He finished his antibiotics for the strep throat, which is about when this rash developed. Looks like another allergic reaction!
Meanwhile, our friends from out of town had to visit the ER. Their son was having some allergic reactions of his own. Even though we took our cats to my in-laws and cleaned, he seems to have gotten something we missed. He's taking some extra drugs now.
They also decided to ban fireworks in our neighborhood. Means we have to go somewhere to see them. Every place that's got them is either too far away or will be crowded. We're going to our family cabin to have dinner and set off a few firecrackers.
Seems like the past few years, we have been unable to escape birthdays and anniversaries without some health or other calamity befalling some member of the family. Why should this, our 8th anniversary, be any different?
I'm not hungry so far today and feel pretty good. Had Senna tea both last night and this morning. No lemonade yet, but I plan to rectify that soon enough. Two more pounds off the body.
You'd think after not eating solid food for more than 72 hours there wouldn't be anything left in my bowels. You'd be wrong. Of course, that's the point of doing this.
I have noticed that the past few nights, I've been dreaming a lot more than I usually do. Maybe you always dream, but I don't usually remember doing so. I seem to sleep a little deeper too.
Today, it's Jaden's birthday party. Yes, his birthday proper isn't for another couple of weeks, but we're having it early to ensure attendance of more of his friends. Seems everyone runs away shortly after school is out, which happens this Wednesday. Off to get ready for the event...
